Cell Therapy Injections

We will do anything to save your joint from surgery. Although sometimes surgery is inevitable, we will try to avoid it at all costs. We feel strongly that in certain individuals, we can avoid total joint surgery, and restore the patient to a painless joint by using cell therapy.

What is Cell Therapy?

Cell therapy is using cells from various sources to help repair or restore the joint to a painless functional state. These cells are commonly referred to as stem cells. Stem cells are undifferentiated, which means they have not yet become muscle, skin, bone, cartilage, etc.

Evidence shows cell therapy can:

  • Stimulate the healthy cells within the joint
  • Inhibit the destructive cells within the joint
  • Keep the cartilage healthy and strong
  • Stimulate an anti-inflammatory effect
  • Provide a pain-relieving effect

Types of Cell Therapy

Because stem cells are under FDA scrutiny, and the literature support of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Bone Marrow Aspirate (BMA) is more promising, we perform only PRP or BMA therapies. Success is likely driven by the number of stem cells in the injections.

Bone marrow aspirate has a higher number of cells than platelet rich plasma, thus we find it is the most effective option. However, the procedure is more expensive. Both options have been shown to be highly successful.
